Job Description

About the opportunity

The IFYS Specialist Homeless Service supports individuals experiencing homelessness on the Sunshine Coast by providing safe, responsive, and person‑centred housing support.

Reporting to the Coordinator – Specialist Homeless Service, the Housing Support Worker assists with the day‑to‑day delivery of housing responses within a supportive team environment.

A day in the role may include supporting individuals to work towards their housing‑related goals, implementing case management plans, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment, and completing case notes and daily logs. You will work collaboratively with a multi‑agency network, including administrative staff, volunteers, and onsite security, while operating within a client‑centred, strengths‑based framework.

  • Competitive hourly rates casual base $48.31 (inclusive of 25% loading), Afternoon shift $53.14, Night shift $54.11, Saturday shift $67.64, Sunday shift $86.96
  • Not‑for‑profit salary packaging options (up to $15,900 per FBT year)

  • Shifts typically rostered for 8am-5pm; 11am-8pm; 4:30pm – 8:30am (sleepover allowance $60.02)

Key accountabilities

  • Provide information and advice, emotional and social support to address the welfare concerns of residents in housing crisis
  • Maintain routines and complete tasks, to support a safe, healthy and therapeutic environment
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multi-agency team, utilising the support of administrative staff, volunteers and onsite security in carrying out tasks
  • Assist individuals to comply with the terms of their residence or overnight stay in homeless accommodation, taking compliance action as necessary
  • Support individuals to access specialist supports and services as required
  • Complete administrative tasks, including but not limited to, case noting, maintaining service user records, the completion of daily logs, and the provision of accurate and timely information

Requirements for the role

  • A relevant qualification in Human Services, Social Work, Community Services will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and working respectfully with individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or complex social disadvantage
  • A sound understanding of homelessness drivers, including housing stress, mental health, substance use, trauma, and systemic barriers
  • Knowledge of local services and referral pathways to effectively link individuals to housing, health, income, and specialist supports
  • An understanding of trauma‑informed practice and the impacts of trauma and adverse life experiences, with the ability to support individuals in a safe and non‑judgemental manner
  • Working knowledge of risk factors and safety considerations within crisis accommodation environments, including domestic and family violence and safeguarding responsibilities

Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful

  • A Valid Queensland Driver’s License with no restrictions
  • QLD Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card)
  • Licensed Care Suitability Check (LCS2)
  • National Crime Check (a new check will be completed through IFYS systems)
  • Ability to provide two recent line manager references including your current employer
